Review by Bonnie Rice

Straight Four is a jazz album featuring the talents of Thomas Stabenow on bass, Ack Van Rooyen on trumpet and flugelhorn, Mario Gonzi on drums, and Johannes Enders on saxophone. The album consists of eight tracks that showcase the group's ability to create a cohesive and engaging sound.

From the opening track "Straight Four," the listener is immediately drawn in by the tight interplay between the musicians. Stabenow's bass provides a solid foundation for the group's improvisations, while Van Rooyen's trumpet and flugelhorn add a smooth and melodic touch. Gonzi's drumming is dynamic and inventive, and Enders' saxophone playing is full of energy and emotion.

Tracks like "Song for E" and "Trane's Mood" showcase the group's ability to pay homage to jazz legends while still putting their own spin on the music. The album also features original compositions by Stabenow and Enders, such as "Thomas' Tune" and "Johannes' Ballad," which demonstrate the group's versatility and creativity.
