Review by Ellice Campbell

Not So Dukish by Johnny Hodges And His Orchestra is a classic jazz album that showcases the talents of one of the greatest saxophonists of all time. The album features a collection of smooth and soulful jazz tracks that are sure to delight any fan of the genre.

The album opens with the upbeat and swinging "I Didn't Know About You," which sets the tone for the rest of the record. Other standout tracks include the sultry "Warm Valley" and the lively "Things Ain't What They Used to Be."

Throughout the album, Hodges' saxophone playing is nothing short of exceptional. His smooth and effortless style is a joy to listen to, and his solos are some of the most memorable moments on the record.

The rest of the orchestra also shines on Not So Dukish, providing a solid foundation for Hodges' saxophone to soar over. The arrangements are tight and well-executed, and the musicians all display a deep understanding of the jazz idiom.

About Johnny Hodges And His Orchestra

After 23 years with Duke Ellington's Orchestra, saxophonist Johnny Cornelius Hodges started his own band in March 1951. The band lasted until September 1955, when Johnny Hodges returned to his place as leader of the Duke's reed section and participated in one of the many revivals of the history of the best big bands in the history of jazz.
